So today’s picture took a little longer than anticipated. Samurai armour is more complex than I initially realised! But I like it; I’m thinking about doing a series of samurai Justice League - yay or nay?

Speaking of different body shapes. These are all basically peak human bodies.

How come 99% of them don’t conform to what the entertainment industry tells us is the perfect body?

This is a FABULOUS set of body refs. So glad this came back across my dash so I could reblog it here :D

These images are from a book by Howard Schatz of various Olympic athletes, which was titled “Athlete.”  You can buy the book [here].  Also, have some more photos from it:

Never not reblogging this.

Awesome!

Best set of body diversity references I’ve seen. I love it!

So, the figure of Matt was today’s daily sketch. But then I realised I’d never had a crack at doing a background in DD’s radar sense, so it seemed like a waste of an opportunity not to. It took bloody ages, but I’m pretty happy with it!

Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that. The daily sketches are suffering this week as I try to make a tight deadline, but they’ll be back next week!

Small tease of the illustration I’m working on. It’s a sample brief to potentially get work from a big company!

This took me longer than usual for two reasons:
1) My right eye is notably deteriorated from a stigma or something else- hopefully not!- giving me tremendous eye strain and ache whilst I work digitally. Anyhow, won’t get answers til June/July now apparently.
and
2) This was a tad more experimental than other pictures I’d done in the past.
I wanted to portray a sense of proportion and dynamic depth whilst in keeping with my minimalistic angular style but also using small details to enforce that even more e.g. The Flash’s silhouette becomes more flat colour entirely as his body seems to be much further away.
I also tried using different brushes to add texture to my usually flat designs with mark making techniques scanned in. It was interesting to see what I could do with them, in this case it was just a few lines drawn with a ‘scrapey’ pen to indicate speed lines as movement- school boy stuff really.
At this point even though it is literally painful to work at the moment I’m doing some stuff on paper, stuff I’ve been working on for a while, a bigger project which I should be able to post an update pretty soon.
For now this is a step in the right direction even if it’s become a pretty slow process.

Excellent.

Daily sketch time! I love me some #hawkguy. I went a bit rougher on this one, but I quite like it.

Had a bit of a play around with some textured brushes. It was fun, and the effect isn’t bad, but to actually get good with these things may take longer than I have at the moment.
